A dual celebration
In March we went on a scouting mission to The Cable Center in Denver, gathering intelligence from the intersection of fashion and episodic narrative at SeriesFest's Fashion in Focus. The evening was a dual celebration: the twentieth anniversary of Matthew Morris Salon & Skincare, one of Denver's creative hubs, and an honoring of Emmy-winning costume designer Molly Rogers — a room filled out by a runway show of more than forty models and costume installations.

The masterclass
Read as a StorySmith, the vanguard work of costume design is the nervous system of a character — the narrative forged before a single line of dialogue is spoken. Rogers, the visionary behind The Devil Wears Prada, Sex and the City, and And Just Like That…, shared masterclass-level insight into how that happens.

Costume design is the nervous system of a character — the narrative forged before a single line of dialogue is spoken.
She spoke about vintage sourcing as fresh blood — the thing that keeps a character's wardrobe unique rather than static or generic. And she recounted the structural power of performance: how Meryl Streep stayed in character as Miranda Priestly even between takes, so the withering intensity of the famous cerulean monologue was earned on set.
The third thread was the danger of the sequel — the high-frequency pressure of continuing a beloved narrative, where you balance generational evolution against the fierce expectations of a global audience.
Beyond the runway
Beyond the fabric, the evening reinforced that beauty is not the false reality of social-media filters but a vehicle for genuine confidence. As Matthew Morris put it, a salon remains one of the last places for courageous, creative conversations between people who might never otherwise meet.

The main exploration begins soon: SeriesFest Season 12 returns to Denver May 6–10, 2026. Our thanks to the SeriesFest team for welcoming a StoryScout into the room. Fashion in Focus, The Cable Center, Denver, Colorado, March 7, 2026.
