The NBA didn't just evolve — it was forced to change by a league that played above the rim while the rest of the world was still on the floor. We joined SeriesFest at the Sie FilmCenter for the screening and Q&A of Soul Power: The Legend of the American Basketball Association, the new Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios sports series.

This wasn't a nostalgia trip. As moderator Vic Lombardi put it, the ABA isn't about grizzly bears and guys with wigs — it's much deeper than that, it's real.

Executive producer George Karl named the urgency behind the series plainly: they made it to shine a light on these players while there's still time — we're getting older, and time is passing. EP Brett Goldberg described the years spent refining it, refusing to make it anything but extraordinary and soulful.

The Denver karma of it: in the making, the team found the world's largest collection of ABA content — more than 60,000 images, held by Arthur Hundhausen and Alex Tonkinson — five minutes from the theater. And ABA legends Ralph Simpson and Chuck Williams traced how the league's entertainment instinct, the three-point line and ball movement, forced the NBA to evolve.
